Sculpture & UMPI's Distinguished Lecturer Series
Savannah, Georgia based artist Henry Dean, aided by Justin Kuhn, completed a series of sculptures along part of the path of totality named "Now and Then." The sculpture located at the University of Maine at Presque Isle's lawn in front of South Hall is the northernmost installation of the series. Dean created the sculpture as a means of showing our relationship with the environment and connecting his inspiration from the solar system model located along Route 1. The Presque Isle location has a 'sister' sculpture located in Houlton, Maine on the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians land. Dean is also to be participating in UMPI's Distinguished Lecturer Series in March of 2024. Photo courtesy of the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Solar System Scale Model
Along Route 1 you will find one of the few scale models of the solar system in the New England area. The Sun is expected to have a new location at the University of Maine at Presque Isle (Currently located in Folsom Hall). View the attached link to learn more about the Maine Solar System Model.
Eclipse Reading
The Presque Isle public library will be holding a children's book reading directly related to the solar eclipse.
Admission is free.
